Summer Style Tips for Short Guys

Opt for lighter materials- so I like to wear long sleeves because I have very slim arms. The sleeves add depth to my arms and body. By choosing cooler fabrics like, chambray, Linen or seersucker, I’m able to still wear the long sleeves without burning up.

Okay so, I wanted to make this video because I realized something about myself. I struggle with dressing in the spring and summer. Let me explain, as you know I’m short! (OMG, wow!) and I find it easier to dress better in the cooler months because I’m able to layer which makes me looked bigger and I can wear Boots which make me look taller.

Well it’s a little harder to do in the summer time... or maybe not... let’s hop back into the list.

  1. Keep your shorts short! Let me explain, I’m not saying you need to wear damn booty shorts cus HELL no! But as a short guy you need to keep your shorts length between 5-7 inches. This we’ll help keep your outfit looking proportionate to your body and the shorter length will actually make hour legs appear longer. If you’re on the stocky or heavier side you may be able to go as long as 9 inches just to keep your proportions in check, but your shorts short stop about an inch or more above your knee. If possible stay away cargo shorts and heavy denim. My go to is cotton shorts like these here from Jcrew factory.

  2. Drop down a size- fellas I think this one can apply to men of all heights. But I’m specially talking about in your T-shirts and polos. Look I get it, it’s hot and you don’t want to be wearing longer sleeves, but that doesn’t mean hour shirts have to look bad on you. Choosing a size smaller if possible can actually make you look better. If you normally wear a medium, try a small, the sleeves will probably be shorter making your arms appear long and your biceps look bigger. And also the smaller shirt will fit closer to your chest making it appear bigger as well. Even if you don’t want to go down a size, just remember those tips about the chest and arm length and you should be good to go.

  3. Tuck in your shirt! Normally I wouldn’t suggest this because the shirt can chop your body in half and make you appear shorter, but in the warmer months I think the opposite occurs. Tucking in your shirt especially if you have on shorts, not only makes your legs look longer, but keeps your torso from looking too long . It also helps keep the outfit streamlined for a more polished look. This works for t shirts as well as polos.

  4. Lighter monochromatic outfits- this tip is always on my list for short guys and it still can apply in the summer. Instead of darker colors, just opt for lighter colors to get the same elongated effect. Colors like white, tan, or light grey will do the trick. You don’t even need layers to pull this look off. This one probably would work easier in the evening time, but can work well during the day as well.

  5. Wear loafers - you guys know I’m a huge proponent of loafers, I talk about them all the time! Loafers are a great way to not only give you some added height, but also elevate your outfit especially if your loafers are like a nice cognac or tan color. Next time you think about grabbing your white sneakers, try your loafers on. You may be surprised at how well they look.

  6. Get a haircut! As crazy as this sounds, this would be the perfect time for you to grow out your hair. Leaving some hair at the top only adds to more inches in height. If you’re bald, try growing your beard longer, but keep it trimmed up nicely. Having a big unkept looking beard makes your head looking wider. For my fellas with dreads, try wearing your bun higher or get your hair braided. You’d be surprised how your hair can change the way your face and head look.
