Ballin’ on a Budget

Updated: Feb 13, 2019

One of the main reasons for creating “Esteemed Image” was to show men that you can be stylish without breaking the piggy bank! Does it require some work? Yes. Knowledge? Yes. Patience? Absolutely! I’ve taken a little bit of the leg work for you and listed ways you can be stylish while maintaining your budget.

1. Budget, Budget, Budget!

Create a Budget! Once you’ve taken care of the necessities and savings, see how much you have left to spend. After your budget is made, do the best you can to stick to it. As seen by several men’s fashion Youtuber’s, you can take $100 and come out of the store with 2-3 outfits and some nice shoes to match!

2. Buy Essentials First

If you’re looking to build a wardrobe, but don’t have a lot of money, start by buying your essentials items first. These include but are not limited to navy or tan chinos, light blue or white oxford shirt, and brown dress shoes.

Keeping the colors neutral allows you to mix and match your pieces better than if you were to buy loud colors. More mixing, more outfits, less money!

3. Become a Member

Most department stores have websites where you can sign up to receive emails of their latest releases. From time to time they will also send out discount codes. USE THEM. 15% may not seem like much, but the savings can really add up.

4. Sale Rack

If you’re headed to your favorite brand’s department store, I suggest starting with the SALE section.

I’ve been able to put together a complete outfit for less than $50 just by using the sale rack.

Another cool feature about the sale rack is that they usually have an additional percentage off of the marked down price. The markdowns usually range from 30-75%. Talk about saving!!!

5. Shop Consignment

Going to Goodwill or Salvation Army may not be the first stop on your list but, you definitely should consider it.

Goodwill is a great place to shop because you are presented with the opportunity to find everything you need from head to toe to make a great outfit for a fraction of the cost.

Most of their items are going to range from $5-$10. They also do a “Tag of the Day” where you get 50% off that items tag color.

Personally, I’ve been able to find some great items from both Goodwill and Salvation Army. Some of my favorite items include a pair of red Vans for less than $10 from Goodwill and a tan Members Only jacket from Salvation Army for a whopping $1.10. They both were in great condition. I don’t think you can beat that anywhere.

So guys these are some of my tips on how to ball on a budget. Let me know in the comments some of your tips and some of your favorite stores to shop for great deals!
